Green Homes Grant

What is the Green Homes Grant?

The Green Homes Grant is a scheme by the UK Government for residents of England (the grant does not apply in Scotland, Wales or Ireland). The scheme offers ‘grants’ on home improvement projects that include energy-saving features. The scheme launches on September 1st and applications can be made online at this point.

How much is the Green Home Grant?

The ‘grants’ will come in the form of vouchers worth up to £10,000. Full details on eligibility have not been released yet, but it seems that the vouchers fall into two categories:

  • Up to £5000: any homeowner or landlord can get a voucher for 2/3rds of the price of an energy-saving home-improvement project.

  • Up to £10,000: homeowners on low income can get a voucher for 100% of the price of an energy-saving home-improvement project. It is not yet known exactly what ‘low income household’ means or who will qualify.

What home-improvement projects are eligible?

The Government have yet to release a comprehensive list of home-improvement projects that will be eligible for the grant, but so far have confirmed the following:

  • Cavity Wall Insulation

  • Loft Insulation

  • Double Glazing

  • Windows and Doors

... with potentially many more options to be revealed.

At the moment, full details of the scheme and its specifics are yet to be announced.
